Last week, we mentioned that we were changing things up for December’s recommendation possibilities. Not only are we taking recommendations for books with December publication dates, we are also accepting recommendations for any books that did not make one of our monthly newsletters but should have. Now is your chance to set us straight and let us know what we missed! The deadline is November 20th, so submit your recommendations for best December release or favorite non-recommended book today!
Paperback release alert!
The Purchase by Linda Spalding (August 2013 recommendation) will be out in paperback on 19 November 2013 for all those who missed it the first time around or were waiting for the paperback version. Also available in paperback now are The First Rule of Swimming by Courtney Angela Brkic (May 2013 recommendation), The Smart One by Jennifer Close (April 2013 recommendation), Hothouse by Boris Kachka (August 2013 release), as well as the two mentioned last month, NOS4A2 by Joe Hill (April 2013 recommendation) and King of Cuba by Cristina Garcia (May 2013 recommendation).
Now, the news:
- Colum McCann‘s Transatlantic (June 2013 recommendation) and Paul Lynch‘s Red Sky in the Morning (November 2013 recommendation) have been shortlisted for the 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, in the categories of Novel of the Year and Newcomer of the Year respectively. The awards will be announced on November 26th. Congratulations to both!
- The New York Times feature Writing Bytes provides interesting insight by various authors about technology and what it means for storytellers. Among the authors featured are Marisha Pessl, Night Film (August 2013 recommendation) and Rainbow Rowell, Fangirl (September 2013 recommendation).
- Publishers’ Weekly has already published a Best Books of 2013 list, and we are thrilled to see both A Constellation of Vital Phenomenon by Anthony Marra (May 2013 recommendation) and Lost Girls by Robert Kolker (July 2013 recommendation) among the list!
- The New York Times hosts a conversation with Elizabeth Gilbert, author of The Signature of All Things (October 2013 recommendation) this week as well. She shares her motivation for her current book and some of her writing secrets.
- It’s NaNoWriMo, or for those who have no idea what that is National Novel Writing Month! Any future authors who are struggling this month should take heart. Many a novel has gotten its start during this month-long event, including Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (September 2013 recommendation).
- Amazon recently released their 2013 Top 100 Books in Print. We are thrilled to see many familiar books on their lists!
